2 senior NBR officials sent on forced retirement over graft allegations
The two officials were reportedly involved in various irregularities while serving at Income Tax Zone-5

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sent two top officials from its income tax wing on forced retirement over allegations of irregularities and corruption.
According to NBR sources, Abu Sayeed Md Mustaque, an NBR member, and Golam Kabir, a commissioner of the income tax wing, were sent into mandatory retirement today (17 April).
The two officials were reportedly involved in various irregularities while serving at Income Tax Zone-5.
An NBR source said they were forced into retirement as they had completed 25 years of government service. As per the rules, the government can send any official into retirement after this period.
Commenting on the matter, a senior official of the relevant NBR department told The Business Standard on condition of anonymity, "The maximum departmental action that NBR could take has been taken. Now, there remains the scope for initiating any kind of legal proceedings against them."
The duo was also reportedly serving in Zone-5 during the much-discussed incident involving Tk721 crore, which was brought into the country from China and falsely declared as remittance to claim tax exemptions and receive remittance certificates.
