Commission calls for major public administration reforms with over 100 recommendations

The Public Administration Reform Commission has made over 100 feasible recommendations, commission chief Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury has said.

The commission's report will be submitted to the chief adviser around 12:30pm tomorrow, said Abdul Muyeed while talking to reporters at the Secretariat today (4 February).

"Our report was initially scheduled to be submitted last month, but we needed more time as we engaged in fieldwork, held discussions with people at district and upazila levels, and collected feedback online. Based on these inputs, we finalised and signed the report today," he said.

The commission chairman declined to disclose details of the recommendations but said that they exceed 100 in number.

Muyeed said, "All the proposed reforms are implementable. We have only recommended practical measures. Now, it is up to the government to decide on implementation," he said.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md Mokhlesur Rahman said the report would become a public document after submission and it will be available online.

The Public Administration Reform Commission was formed on 3 October with eight members, led by Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, a former adviser to a caretaker government.

The number of commission members was later increased to 11.

The commission was tasked with formulating recommendations for a more people-centric, accountable, efficient and neutral public administration system.

It was initially given a 90-day (three-month) deadline to submit the report to the Chief Adviser.

However, the tenure was extended thrice with a final deadline set for 15 February.
