Coast Guard seizes 110kg of venison in Sundarbans raid, one held

The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 110kg of venison and detained a poacher during a special operation in the Thakur Bari Ghat area of the Sundarbans' Nolian range on 8 April 2025.

Acting on a tip-off, members of the Nolian outpost conducted the raid, according to a press release issued by the Coast Guard's media officer, Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque.

During the operation, the Coast Guard team spotted associates of notorious bandit Karim Sharif—identified as Md Shahjahan, Md Anu, and one unidentified individual—fleeing the scene and abandoning two boats. Upon searching the boats, the team recovered the venison.

One individual, Md Ariful Sardan, 24, of Dakop upazila in Khulna, was apprehended during the raid.

The arrested man and the seized venison were handed over to the Nolian Forest Office for further legal action.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque stated that the Bangladesh Coast Guard continues round-the-clock patrols to maintain law and order in the coastal and riverine areas, and that such operations will persist.
