Coast Guard provides medical aid, relief in Bhola and Barishal
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has organised a free medical campaign in Borhan Uddin, Bhola, and distributed relief to unregistered fishers in Kaliganj, Barisal, as part of its ongoing public service initiatives.
The information was confirmed by Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, on Thursday afternoon.
He said the Coast Guard has long been engaged in assisting underprivileged and disaster-affected people in coastal and riverine regions, providing humanitarian support and contributing to socio-economic development.
Continuing that effort, Coast Guard Base Bhola conducted a medical campaign at Kotba Government Primary School under Borhan Uddin Police Station from 10am to 4pm on Thursday, during which 283 disadvantaged individuals, including children, received free medical consultations and medicines.
At the same time, a relief distribution and exchange meeting was held with one hundred unregistered fishers at Coast Guard Station Kaliganj. The meeting, attended by the Mehendiganj Upazila Fisheries Officer and local fishers, discussed issues such as preventing jatka fishing, protecting mother hilsa and addressing fishers' livelihood challenges.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq added that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such community outreach programmes to support marginalised coastal populations.
