Coast Guard meets stakeholders on frozen food safety and shrimp trade

The Bangladesh Coast Guard held a meeting in Khulna on September 2, 2025, to discuss the ban on jelly-injected shrimp, shrimp fry, and the marketing of frozen food.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the shrimp industry to Bangladesh's international trade and foreign exchange earnings. Speakers noted that some unscrupulous traders inject jelly into shrimp or use shrimp larvae to increase profits, practices that damage the country's reputation and pose risks to export markets.
Speakers also raised concerns about processing and marketing frozen food in unhygienic conditions, which threatens both public health and food security.
Representatives from the Shrimp Traders Association of Rupsa and Khulna, Khulna Frozen Food Association, Department of Fisheries, Police, Naval Police, Forest Department, and local community members attended the session.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lt Cmdr Siam-ul-Haq emphasised that the force would continue public awareness efforts to support the ban and protect the shrimp industry, underscoring the meeting's main outcome to safeguard food safety and industry standards.
