CJ, US envoy discuss judicial cooperation, human rights, rule of law
He also highlighted the judiciary’s role in protecting human rights in Bangladesh

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and US Charge D'affaires Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson held a meeting in Dhaka today (14 August), where they discussed bilateral judicial cooperation, human rights protection and matters related to the rule of law.
During the talks, the chief justice outlined various measures undertaken in the past year to strengthen the judiciary, including plans for building an independent, strong and justice-oriented judicial system.
He also highlighted the judiciary's role in protecting human rights in Bangladesh.
The US envoy congratulated the chief justice on completing his first year in office and appreciated his reform initiatives, such as announcing a judicial reform roadmap, introducing 12 directives to improve transparency, launching a capacity test for providing legal aid to defendants, initiating a law for High Court appointments through the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council and setting up a Supreme Court helpline for litigants.
"The chief justice's leadership would help establish good governance and ensure justice, while reaffirming US support for the independence of Bangladesh's judiciary," Tracey said.
