Citizen representatives to be involved in TCB operations: Commerce minister
Under the initiative, each consumer can purchase a maximum of two litres of edible oil, one kilogram of sugar, two kilograms of lentils, one kilogram of chickpeas, and one to two kilograms of dates, subject to availability.
Citizen representatives will be more actively involved in the activities of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) in the coming days to ensure transparency and prevent irregularities, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said today (21 February).
Speaking to reporters after visiting TCB's mobile truck sales programme in the Lakkatura area of Sylhet, he said one or more citizen committees will be formed in each ward to oversee TCB operations and ensure that activities are implemented smoothly and without malpractice.
Muktadir, also minister of industries, textiles, and jute, further said, "Supply of TCB products is a public service. We will ensure that it aligns with public expectations."
Ahead of Ramadan, the government has launched the sale of essential commodities at subsidised prices through the state-run TCB. Under the programme, consumers can purchase edible oil, sugar, chickpeas, lentils and dates.
Currently, the products are being sold through 50 mobile trucks in Dhaka, 20 in Chattogram, and 15 in each of the seven divisional areas. In the remaining 55 districts, sales are being conducted through five trucks per district.
The programme will continue until 12 March.

During Ramadan, chickpeas are being sold at Tk60 per kg and dates at Tk160 per kg. Edible oil is priced at Tk115 per litre, sugar at Tk80 per kg, and lentils at Tk70 per kg.
