Parents in jail, children pass Eid day crying

Two little children passed their Eid crying as their parents are held in jail over a dispute centring a house between two brothers in Satkhira.

Father Maruf Hossain and mother Sabina Yasmin of Maria, 8, and Marjia, 3, are currently in jail in the case lodged by their elder brother Kamruzzaman.

They are residents of Kalaroa upazila on the east side of Kalaroa Government College. Maruf Hossain and Kamruzzaman are the sons of late Amed Ali.

As the parents were in jail, the two children were left in the care of some Fazlur Rahman, a local resident of Ward-4 of Jhikra village in Kalaroa Municipality.

Fazlur Rahman said there was a long-running dispute between elder brother Kamruzzaman and younger brother Maruf Hossain over a three-decimal land.

Maruf and his wife went to the Kalaroa Reporters Club from the hospital on Sunday to report the incident to local journalists. While on their way back from there, police arrested Maruf and his wife from the hospital gate and sent them to jail in the afternoon, added Fazlur Rahman.

"The upazila chairman has handed over their two children to me but two children are crying for their parents all through the day on Eid day and the youngest daughter, Marjia, is still breastfed so there is no way to handle her," said Fazlur Rahman.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalaroa Police Station Sheikh Munir Ul Gias said a case of house vandalism, looting of property and indecency of wife has been lodged by Kamruzzaman.
