The 29th edition of the Chittagong International Trade Fair (CITF) is going to start on 31 May, after a two-year gap amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Mahbubul Alam announced the inauguration of the month-long fair at a press conference held at the World Trade Center in Agrabad on Sunday.

The inauguration ceremony of the trade fair will take place at 3:30 pm on the same day at the Railway Polo Ground in the city. There will be 370 ​​stalls of more than 310 local and foreign companies at the fair.

The ticket price has been fixed at Tk15 for visitors. The fair will be open to all every day from 10 am to 10 pm.

Small and medium entrepreneurs from different parts of the country will showcase their products at the fair. At the same time, various established groups in the country will set up pavilions to promote their products and keep the product open for visitors.

Besides, entrepreneurs from India, Thailand and Iran are participating in the fair with their native products. There will be 17 premier pavilions, 33 premier stalls, 99 gold stalls, 48 ​​mega stalls and 14 food stalls on an area of ​​about 4,00000 sqft, said the press release.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will be present at the inaugural ceremony of the fair as the chief guest. Chittagong-11 MP and former CCCI President MA Latif, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Jasim Uddin and Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir will be present as special guests at the event.

A modern Bangabandhu pavilion has been set up at this year's fair. With the help of the Batighar publication, there will be arrangements to display various books and publications on Bangabandhu's autobiography and the liberation war. There will be a free WiFi facility on the fair premises. Free tickets have been arranged for students from playgroup to 7th-grade of different schools in the city.

Besides, as part of social responsibility, Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (BSK), Sandhani, RAD (Right Action for Disability), Chittagong Deaf Sports and Social Welfare Organisation and Electrician Welfare Society have been allotted one free stall each. An information booth will be open round the clock for the convenience of visitors.
