CA's Special Asst Faiz Ahmed seeks investment for state-owned enterprises
Bangladesh has several state-owned enterprises, and there is a need for investments through public-private partnerships (PPP) or government-to-government (G2G) models to strengthen and reform these institutions, said Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, special assistant to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
"We aim to open new investment avenues," said during a meeting with EU Ambassador Michael Miller at the Post Office Building yesterday (23 March).
Miller discussed policy frameworks, EU investments, project financing, and workforce training to enhance skills. He emphasised that the EU is a highly reliable development partner for Bangladesh and is ready to invest in the country, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology today (24 March).
Meanwhile, Faiz stated that a Digital Transformation Master Plan and a draft version of the ICT Roadmap have been prepared. Similar roadmaps will be presented to the nation for every state-owned enterprise. He highlighted ten key pillars, including digitalisation of government services, decentralization, and institutional capacity building.
He also underscored Bangladesh's vision for data exchange and governance and its focus on developing digital public infrastructure. Additionally, he mentioned ongoing efforts to formulate a Cyber Security Ordinance and a Personal Data Protection Act.
When asked about the digital transformation strategy, Faiz assured that stakeholders' input would be considered in finalising the Digital Transformation Master Plan, which is expected to take shape by mid-year.
Regarding the Personal Data Protection Act, he stated that public opinion would be sought in four stages. The government will first consult business representatives, followed by local businesses, human rights organizations, and the media. Finally, inter-ministerial discussions will take place before finalizing the act. He also stressed the importance of upgrading ICT and cyber resources beyond just government agencies to include all law enforcement agencies and public officials.
He further emphasised Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) and the upskilling of the workforce, seeking training support from the EU and e-Governance team. He invited the EU to invest in Bangladesh's technology sector.
Miller extended an invitation to Faiz to participate in the upcoming Global Gateway Forum in Brussels.
