Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, special assistant to the chief adviser on home ministry, has resigned from his post.
The president has accepted his resignation on Wednesday (24 December), Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the development.
Following the death of Inqilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman Bin Hadi following a gun attack on 12 December, calls grew for the resignation of Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Special Assistant Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, amid broader concerns over the country's law and order situation.
Against this backdrop, Khoda Baksh Chowdhury has resigned.
However, the reason for his resignation was not immediately known.
Khoda Baksh was appointed as special assistant to the chief adviser on 11 November last year.
He is a former inspector general of Bangladesh Police with extensive experience in international peace missions. He joined the United Nations Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES) in May 1996, where he served first as deputy sector chief and later as sector chief in one of the mission's two sectors.
Chowdhury was promoted to Inspector General of Police in 2001 while serving as a superintendent of police, achieving the rank within five years and superseding many senior officers.
