Jatiya Nagorik Committee has demanded the cancellation of Awami League's (AL) registration as a political party and the seizure of properties owned by the party's corrupt leaders.

Their call came during a rally protesting last night's (7 February) attack on activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement by Awami League men in Gazipur.

The rally was organised by the Nagorik Committee's Gazipur district and city units in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office at around 11am today (8 February).

During the event, the speakers made several demands, including cancellation of AL's registration, seizure of properties of the corrupt AL leaders and activists, and immediate arrest of those who attacked the students last night.

Earlier, the Student Movement announced a protest rally following what it said were attacks on students by followers of AL leaders AKM Mozammel Haque, the former liberation war affairs minister, and Jahangir Alam, the former mayor of Gazipur city.

The announcement was made on the Student Movement's Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Nagorik Committee Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam on his Facebook page wrote, "Today will be the last day of Awami League goons in Gazipur. We are coming."

Last night, at least 15 were left injured among a group of agitators attempting to vandalise Mozammel's home in Gazipur after their bid was thwarted.
