Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has conveyed his condolences to the family of Didarul Islam, a Bangladeshi origin New York police officer killed in a gunman attack in July.
According to the chief adviser's official Facebook page, family members met him at a hotel in New York last night (22 September), local time.
During the meeting, the chief adviser presented a crest in tribute to the officer.
Relatives present included Didarul's father Mohammad Abdur Rab, mother Minara Begum, sons Ayhan Islam and Ajhan Islam, brother Kamrul Hasan, nephew Adiyan Hasan, sister Nadima Begum and uncle Ahmed Jamal Uddin.
The chief adviser was accompanied by Akhter Hossen, member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), and Tasnim Jara, joint convenor of the party.
"I read about the incident in the newspaper. I was shocked. I could not understand how it happened. I saw on TV that thousands of people attended his last farewell in New York. He received the grief, respect and love of many people. While planning our trip to New York, we felt we absolutely had to meet with you," Yunus told the family.
Family members said Didarul was a responsible officer praised in his service at the New York Police Department, where he had been working since 2021 at the 47th Precinct in the Bronx.
Didarul was killed on 28 July when a gunman opened fire in a Manhattan building before turning the weapon on himself.
