Buriganga launch capsize: ‘Mayur-2’ master held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested the master of "Mayur-2" launch at Hasnabad of South Keraniganj early Monday in connection with Buriganga launch capsize that claimed the lives of 32 people.

The arrestee is Md Abul Bashar, 57, from Magura.

"A RAB team, led by RAB-10 Deputy Commander Major Shahriar Jiaur Rahman, psc, conducted a drive in the area at around 4 am and arrested Abul Bashar," said Sujoy Sarker, assistant director, legal and media wing of RAB.

On June 30, a case was filed with South Keraniganj Police Station over the launch capsize.

Abul Bashar is the second of those accused in the case. After the incident he went into hiding.

Earlier, police arrested Abdus Salam, supervisor of the launch, and the owner of Mayur-2 launch Mosaddek Sayed on July 7 and July 9 respectively.

On June 29, at least 32 people were killed when launch "Morning Bird" capsized in the Buriganga River after "'Mayur-2" hit it.
