BTRC has instructed telecom operators to provide 1GB free internet to their subscribers on 18 July to commemorate the July Uprising.
The decision was made during a BTRC meeting on Tuesday (8 July), chaired by the commission's vice chairman, according to the BTRC order.
As per the directive, the BTRC approved this initiative following instructions from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, aimed at reflecting public aspirations and promoting digital freedom.
As part of the government initiative to commemorate the July Uprising, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has instructed the operators to provide 1GB free internet to their subscribers on 18 July, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain wrote in a post shared on his verified Facebook page yesterday (9 July).

The order included a sample SMS message: "No one will take away the freedom to use the internet. On the occasion of July Uprising Day, you will receive 1GB of data on 18 July, valid for 5 days."
