Iran offers Hormuz reopening plan through Qatar mediators
Iran has proposed a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz through a framework involving the United States and conditions outlined in a June 18 memorandum. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the proposal was delivered through Qatari mediators, while President Masoud Pezeshkian offered to readmit UN nuclear inspectors.
Reports say US President Donald Trump rejected the proposal. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has caused major energy price volatility, while vessel traffic has fallen sharply. The wider conflict also includes escalating Houthi attacks in the Red Sea region.
