BNP warns Zainul Abedin Farroque over remarks on Tarique’s tenure
The party’s central office confirmed the matter today (11 March)
The BNP has issued a warning to Zainul Abedin Farroque, a member of the party chairman's Advisory Council.
The party's central office confirmed the matter today (11 March).
A letter signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, political advisor to the party chairman and senior joint secretary general of the BNP, has formally cautioned MP Farroque, according to party sources.
Sources indicate that the warning was reportedly prompted by his remarks suggesting that Tarique Rahman would remain prime minister until 2042.
According to reports, Farroque delivered a speech on Monday (9 March) as the chief guest at an event held at the National Press Club.
During the speech, Farroque said, "Tarique Rahman will serve as prime minister from 2026 to 2032 and continue from 2032 to 2037, Inshallah. Based on my limited political experience and having served in Parliament six times, I believe it will ultimately be Tarique Rahman who will lead."
"Not only in 2031, but also in 2037 and 2042, Tarique Rahman will remain prime minister, Inshallah," he added.
His statements quickly circulated across media outlets and social media platforms.
