BNP leaders, activists gather outside The Dorchester in support of Tarique ahead of meeting with Yunus
The meeting is drawing intense attention both at home and abroad and is likely to be a one-to-one discussion.
A group of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) supporters assembled outside The Dorchester hotel in London today (13 June), bearing banners reading "Bangladesh First" ahead of a widely anticipated meeting between Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The gathering comes amid intense speculation surrounding the proposed encounter today during Yunus's four-day visit to the UK.
The meeting, which is currently underway at The Dorchester where Yunus is staying during his trip, is drawing intense attention both at home and abroad and is likely to be a one-to-one discussion.
Senior leaders of BNP and its alliance partners believe the talks between Yunus and Tarique could prove to be a turning point in resolving the political deadlock, fostering consensus, and creating space for negotiation.
The meeting comes after CA Yunus on 6 June announced that the next national election will be held on any day in the first half of April 2026.
The BNP, which has consistently demanded that the next national election be held by December this year, reacted with frustration, calling the decision unilateral and impractical. The party has since been vocal in urging the government to reconsider.
Now, party insiders say the proposed meeting could offer a breakthrough.
