Around 3:00pm today, Ganiul Islam, the BNP activist, passed away due to a brain hemorrhage caused by a head injury at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital

A BNP activist today (12 March) succumbed to his injuries sustained during a clash between two factions of the party in Rajshahi's Tanore upazila yesterday.
"Around 3:00pm today, Ganiul Islam, the BNP activist, passed away due to a brain hemorrhage caused by a head injury at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital," Dr Shankar K Biswas, a hospital spokesperson, told The Business Standard.
According to locals, the clash erupted yesterday during an Iftar and prayer event organised by the BNP's Panchandar Union unit at the Krishnapur Women's College field. BNP Chairperson's Adviser Sharif Uddin was present there as the chief guest.
Before the Iftar, supporters of former Panchandar Union BNP chairman Mominul Haque Momin and current president Mojibur Rahman gathered on both sides of the road to welcome the chief guest with garlands.
A dispute arose over which group would present their garland first, leading to a heated argument and a violent clash.
During the altercation, Ganiul, a supporter of Mominul Haque Momin, sustained serious injuries. Locals rushed him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. He succumbed to his injuries today.
Tanore Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Afzal Hossain said legal action will be taken if a complaint is filed.
