BJIM expresses concern over threats to Desh Rupantor reporter Siddiqur
BJIM also urged the relevant authorities to take immediate and decisive action against such threats

The Bangladeshi Journalists in International Media (BJIM) today (10 April) expressed deep concern over the safety of journalist Siddiqur Rahman, who has reportedly been threatened by a government construction site contractor in Patuakhali district due to his journalistic work.
The contractor, Humayun Kabir Shohagh — allegedly a leader of Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP — was heard in a leaked phone call conversation, confronting Daily Desh Rupantor reporter Siddiqur for visiting his construction site as part of a corruption investigation, said a BJIM press release.
During the call, Shohagh issued death threats to Siddiqur, warning him not to continue his reporting or return to the site.
"Such intimidations seriously threaten press freedom and the fundamental right to free speech," said the BJIM statement.
BJIM also urged the relevant authorities to take immediate and decisive action against such threats to ensure justice is served and safeguard journalists' rights and safety across the country.
