BGMEA, Stanley/Stella discuss sustainability and compliance collaboration
Discussions focused on the growing pressure from consumers and governments, particularly with upcoming EU directives, for greater social and environmental responsibility in the apparel sector

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has held a meeting with European apparel company Stanley/Stella to explore greater collaboration on sustainability and social compliance in the readymade garment sector.
The meeting, held yesterday (17 September), was presided over by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and BGMEA Director Nafis-Ud-Doula, while Stanley/Stella was represented by its sustainability director, according to a press release from BGMEA.
Discussions focused on the growing pressure from consumers and governments, particularly with upcoming EU directives, for greater social and environmental responsibility in the apparel sector, it said.
Both sides observed that Bangladesh, currently in a transitional phase, is well placed to reinforce its commitments in these areas.
Among the key topics discussed were renewable energy, Scope 3 emissions, green transition, and unified code of conduct.
Both BGMEA and Stanley/Stella expressed their commitment to exploring these areas of collaboration to ensure a more sustainable and responsible future for the garment industry in Bangladesh, it added.
