BGMEA cuts service charges for members by 25%

The newly elected board of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, has reduced service charges for its members by 25%.
The decision was taken at a board meeting held on 23 June and was officially communicated to members today (29 June). The revised rates will come into effect from July.
BGMEA currently has around 2,500 member factories that avail a range of services from the trade body. Previously, charges for these services could go up to Tk20,000. Under the new structure, those fees will now be 25% lower.
Services covered under this charge reduction include alternative cash incentives, 0.30% special cash incentives, certificates for new market expansion support, SME certification, utility declarations (UD) for raw material imports, UD amendments, export product service charges (per dozen), and export permission fees.
The existing charges range from Tk200 to Tk20,000 per service. The per-dozen service fee for apparel exports currently ranges between Tk0.12 and Tk0.40.
This was the first major decision made by the board led by Babu after he took office, fulfilling a key campaign pledge to reduce service charges for members.
