BGB seizes smuggled goods worth over Tk 170.18 crore in February 2025

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was able to seize various types of smuggled goods worth 170 crore 18 lakh 79 thousand taka during raids conducted in the border areas and other parts of the country in February 2025.
The seized contraband includes 2 kg 529 grams of gold, 85 kg 400 grams of silver, 8,784 saris, 6,811 three-piece/shirt piece/chadar/blanket, 7,204 ready-made garments, 12,202 meters of than cloth, 3,39,920 cosmetics, 7,166 imitation jewellery, 1,686,739 fireworks, 6,782 cubic feet of wood, 2,434 kg of tea leaves, 48,839 kg of betel nut, 2,69,824 kg of sugar, 4,093 kg of fertiliser, 32 litres of diesel, 23,820 kg of coal, 1,310 cubic feet of stone, 115 kg of yarn/current net, 559 mobiles, 3,852 mobile displays, 30,624 glasses, 67,135 kg of various fruits, 670 kg Edible oil, 4,336 kg of onions, 2,483 kg of garlic, 13,406 kg of cumin, 2,835 kg of raisins, 1,91,591 pieces of chocolate, nine trucks, 11 pickups, two private cars/microbuses, one covered van, one tractor, 46 boats, 27 CNG/easy bikes, 44 motorcycles and 31 bicycles.
The recovered weapons include two pistols, two guns, two magazines, five rounds of bullets, one mortar shell and 69 hand grenades.
In addition, a considerable amount of narcotics was seized by the BGB last month. The confiscated drugs and narcotics include 11,59,748 pieces of Yaba tablets, 5 kg 878 grams of heroin, 2 kg 297 grams of cocaine, 23,044 bottles of Phensedyl, 14,935 bottles of foreign liquor, 160 litres of Bengali liquor, 713 bottles of canned beer, 2,693 kg of marijuana, 3,40,242 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 40,914 narcotic tablets/injections, 3,787 bottles of Iscaf syrup, 208 bottles of MKDil/Kofidil, 6,97,872 pieces of various medicines and tablets and 59,969 Anegra/Senegra tablets. In addition, 28.5 acres of poppy have been planted in Bandarban.
In the border operation, BGB arrested 134 smugglers on charges of involvement in various types of drug trafficking, including Yaba and other contraband, and took legal action against 281 Bangladeshi citizens and 13 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border. In addition, 931 Myanmar citizens were returned to their country while trying to enter Bangladesh.
