Former army chief M Harun found dead at Chittagong Club
According to police, the former army chief, also the president of Destiny Group, had travelled to Chattogram from Dhaka just a day earlier to appear before a local court in connection with an ongoing case.
The body of former chief of army staff Lt Gen (retd) M Harun-ur-Rashid, Bir Protik, was recovered from the Chittagong Club premises this afternoon (4 August).
Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station, Abdul Karim, said, "The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy."
He added that the cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the post-mortem report.
According to police, the former army chief, also the president of Destiny Group, had travelled to Chattogram from Dhaka just a day earlier to appear before a local court in connection with an ongoing case.
He checked into a residential room at the Chittagong Club and went to bed after dinner.
The next morning, as he did not respond to repeated knocks on his door, club authorities alerted the police. Officers later recovered his body from the room.
He joined Destiny Group as its president in 2006. In 2012, he was accused in a high-profile fraud case linked to the controversial company.
