BGB seizes gold bars in Chuadanga

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested one person along with six gold bars weighing 729 grams, valued at approximately Tk87,48,680, from the bordering areas of the district on Monday afternoon.
The arrested has been identified as Md Raj Rocky (32), son of Rezaul Haque Liton, from Gayeshpur village under Jibannagar upazila.
Acting on secret information, a squad of Moheshpur Battalion (58 BGB), Jhenaidah, conducted a raid around 5:30pm on Monday and apprehended Rocky from Jibannagar Police Station intersection. He was taken to the Jibannagar camp for questioning, according to a BGB press release.
Assistant Director of the 58th Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Mohammad Saiful Islam, stated that based on secret information, BGB members learned that gold would be smuggled illegally to India through the Jibannagar border area. In the afternoon, a patrol team from the Jibannagar Border Outpost (BOP) took position at Thanamor area. During this time, they apprehended a suspicious individual.
Upon interrogation about the gold, the detainee initially denied any involvement. However, in the evening, after being induced to defecate, two packets wrapped in black tape were recovered from his rectum. Upon opening the packets, six gold bars were found, weighing approximately 729 grams, he said.
The estimated market value of the seized gold bars is Tk87,48,680.
A case has been registered at Jibannagar Police Station, and the seized gold bars were deposited there.
