A group of Beximco Industrial Park workers staged demonstrations in the Sarabo area of Gazipur's Kashimpur today (12 October), demanding outstanding salaries.

They blocked the Chandra-Nabinagar road at noon and again this afternoon.

Assistant Superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police Deepak Chandra Majumder said the workers blocked the road for half an hour from 12:30pm. Police went to the spot and removed them.

Later, at 5:30pm, the workers again gathered in front of the factory and blocked the road, claiming that the owners did not take any action for their demands.

"Police are at the spot to solve the issue," Deepak said.

According to factory workers and industrial police sources, around 20,000-22,000 workers work in Beximco Industrial Park. The protesting workers alleged that they have not yet received last month's salary.

Quoting the workers, Gazipur Industrial Police Inspector Shafiqul Islam Mollah said, "Senior officials of the factory told the workers that the government has frozen the bank accounts of the factory owners. Due to this, it was not possible for them to pay the salaries on time. The owners are in talks with the government. They will disburse salaries when they are able to withdraw money from banks."
