Prof Kalimullah, ex-VC of Begum Rokeya University, arrested in Dhaka

Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, the former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in connection with a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to sources, a DB team apprehended Nazmul from Dhaka's Mohammadpur area at around 12:10pm today (7 August).
Earlier, on June 18, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Dr Kalimullah and four others for the abuse of power, fraud and embezzlement of Tk4 crore through various projects of the public university.
The rest of the accused are former BRU VC Dr AKM Noor-un-Nabi, former executive engineer of the university and secretary of the tender evaluation committee Md Jahangir Alam, contractor Md Abdus Salam Bachchu and MM Habibur Rahman.
Yesterday (6 August), Director General and spokesperson of the ACC Akhtar Hossain in a briefing said the accused, in collusion with each other, misappropriated a total of Tk34 crore from several sources.
