BCG seizes yaba in two operations in Cox’s Bazar

The Bangladesh Coast Guard continues its regular operations to ensure security in coastal and riverine areas and curb smuggling and drug trafficking.
Acting on confidential intelligence, it was revealed that a large consignment of yaba tablets would enter Bangladesh through the Subrang Zero Point sea area under Teknaf Police Station, Cox's Bazar, on Monday, 24 February 2025.
Based on the information received, a special operation was conducted at 12:30 a.m. by Bangladesh Coast Guard Eastern Zone's BCG Station Teknaf, Shahpari Outpost, and RAB-15 CPC-1 in the area above. During the operation, a suspicious engine-driven wooden boat was searched, resulting in the seizure of 10,000 yaba tablets and the arrest of five drug traffickers. The detained individuals were identified as Shafi (17), Shafiullah (46), Bashir Ahmed (35), Rafique (24), and Manjur Alam (30), all residents of Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.
In a separate operation based on further intelligence, the Coast Guard and RAB jointly conducted another special operation at 3 a.m. in the Khurer Muk area of Subrang, Teknaf. During the operation, a suspicious wooden boat was searched, leading to the discovery of a sack partially submerged in water and tied with rope in a concealed manner. The sack contained 200,000 (two lakh) yaba tablets. The drug traffickers on board managed to escape by swimming to shore upon detecting the presence of the joint forces.
The spokesperson further stated that legal proceedings are underway regarding the yaba tablets seized in both operations and the individuals arrested.
