Activists of the banned Chhatra League staged processions in three separate areas of Chattogram city on Friday (24 April).
Videos of the processions have been circulating on social media and were also shared from several Awami League - aligned Facebook pages.
The footage shows processions taking place in the GEC, No. 2 Gate and CRB areas under the banners of the city Chhatra League and MES College Chhatra League.
According to claims made in the Facebook posts, the procession in the GEC area was held in the morning, while those in Lalkhan Bazar and CRB took place after Friday prayers.
One video shows a procession starting from the GEC area and moving towards Golpahar intersection. A group under the MES College Chhatra League banner took part and chanted slogans in support of the banned AL.
Another procession was seen starting from the CRB area and heading towards Tigerpass, where participants chanted slogans in favour of Sheikh Hasina. At the same time, a group wearing red caps was also seen marching in the No. 2 Gate area.
When asked about the matter, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Media) Aminur Rashid told The Business Standard, "The videos are being reviewed. Legal action will be taken after identifying those involved."
Earlier, the interim government had banned the activities of Awami league and its allies on 23 October 2024.
