Banned Chhatra League brings out procession in Chattogram, two detained

Two people were detained for allegedly participating in a flash procession brought out by leaders and activists of the banned organisation Chhatra League in Chattogram city on Thursday (24 April) morning, according to police.
Members of the banned group staged the procession around 7:15 am in the city's Love Lane area under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Police Station, said the station's Officer-in-Charge Abdul Karim.
Speaking to The Business Standard, he said approximately 12–15 members of Chhatra League took part in the procession, which lasted for about one and a half minutes.
"Upon receiving information, police conducted a raid and managed to detain two of the participants," he said, adding that raids are ongoing to detain the remaining individuals involved.
Meanwhile, a short video circulating on social media shows about 15 members of the banned outfit holding a banner and chanting slogans, including: "Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu," "Sheikh Hasina will return, Bangladesh will rise again," and "We do not accept the illegal government."
Following the fall of the Awami League government in the wake of an uprising on August 5, the party's student wing, Chhatra League, was banned in September. Since then, the organisation has carried out several flash processions in the port city.
The first one occurred at midnight on 19 October in the city's Jamal Khan area. A few days later, another procession took place in the early morning in the city's Prabartak area.
On 17 April, they organised a procession in the Bahaddarhat area, after which police arrested five suspects.
In recent days, such processions have become more frequent. However, police have acted swiftly in most cases and managed to capture several members involved.
