Banned AL men set tyres on fire, block Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Faridpur for 4hrs
Witnesses reported that several ambulances heading toward Dhaka were turned back, though those carrying patients were allowed to pass
Leaders and activists of the banned Awami League blocked the Dhaka–Khulna highway at the Shuadi Bus Stand area in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur this morning (13 November), in support of the lockdown called by the party.
At the time of filing this report, around 10:30am, traffic movement on the highway resumed after approximately four hours as the protesters withdrew the blockade programme at around 10:15am. When the police went to talk to them, they left.
The blockade began around 6am near the Shuadi fuel pump, where protesters felled trees across the road and set tyres on fire, halting all vehicular movement on the busy highway. As a result, a number of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road, causing severe suffering for commuters and passengers.
According to locals, a small group of the banned party activists initially took position on the highway. Later, more people joined and completely blocked the road, escalating tension in the area.
Witnesses reported that several ambulances heading toward Dhaka were turned back, though those carrying patients were allowed to pass.
