Bangladeshi youth 'shot dead' by BSF at Thakurgaon border

A Bangladeshi youth was allegedly shot dead early today (12 July) by India's Border Security Force (BSF) along the Thakurgaon border, according to officials from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The deceased, Askar Ali, 24, hailed from Jibanpur village under Haripur Upazila in Thakurgaon. He was reportedly shot at around 4am near pillar 353 along the Minapur border inside Indian territory.
According to BGB and local sources, Askar and several others attempted to cross into India when BSF personnel from the Kishanganj battalion opened fire as the group neared the barbed wire fence.
Askar died on the spot, and his body reportedly remains about 200 yards inside Indian territory.
The incident has heightened tension along the border. Additional BGB personnel have been deployed, while BSF has also reinforced its presence on the Indian side.
The 42nd BGB Battalion based in Dinajpur confirmed that they have formally requested a flag meeting with BSF to retrieve Askar's body and discuss the incident.
