Bangladeshi expatriate, Jahangir Alom, has won a staggering Dh20 million, or over Tk65 crore, in the latest Abu Dhabi Big Ticket draw held yesterday (3 March).
Jahangir, a 44-year-old shipbuilding industry worker, has been living in Dubai for six years, secured his win with ticket number 134468, which he purchased on 11 February, reports Khaleej Times.
For the past three years, he has been participating in the Big Ticket draw along with 14 friends, collectively purchasing tickets every month.
Recalling the life-changing moment, Jahangir said, "I was deeply praying when the call came in. When I stepped out, my friend broke the incredible news. Since then, I've been overwhelmed with joy. But what makes this win truly special is that it's not just mine; it belongs to 14 others and their families too."
Earlier in October last year, another Bangladeshi expat Abul Monsur, hailing from Chattogram, won the Dh20 million grand prize with the latest Big Ticket draw in the United Arab Emirates.
The 52-year-old mason working in Abu Dhabi, Monsur said he has been buying the raffle draws' entries since 2007 and finally luck turned to his side.
"I have been working here in the UAE since 2007 and purchasing Big Ticket for 16 years now. Thirteen of us friends had bought this winning ticket together," Monsur is quoted by Gulf News after hitting the grand prize with ticket number 311573.
