Bangladeshi cook wins Dh1.4 lakh in UAE lottery event
Alauddin has been buying tickets every month with a group of 21 friends
Alauddin Shahjahan, a 30‑year‑old cook from Bangladesh, has won Dh140,000 (Tk46 lakh) in the latest Big Ticket draw in Abu Dhabi, marking a life‑changing moment after three years of persistence.
His winning came through a Big Win contest where he, along with four other winners, were blindfolded and asked to pick balls of different cash prizes ranging from Dh50,000 to Dh150,000 from a glass box, reports Khaleej Times.
Based in Abu Dhabi and separated from his family in Bangladesh, Alauddin has been buying tickets every month with a group of 21 friends.
"I was overwhelmed with happiness upon receiving the news. It was a truly joyful and emotional moment," he said.
While he is still deciding how to use the prize money, Alauddin confirmed he will continue purchasing Big Ticket entries.
Three other winners, including an Emirati government official, also received Dh140,000 each in the same draw.
Big Ticket is Abu Dhabi's largest and longest-running raffle draw, famous for turning ordinary people into millionaires. It has now launched its 2026 promotion with 27 prizes on offer, including six guaranteed millionaires.
At the centre of the January draw is a Dh20 million grand prize, alongside five consolation prizes of Dh1 million each, making this one of the most exciting editions yet.
