Bangladesh welcomes Thailand-Cambodia Ceasefire, praises ASEAN mediation

Bangladesh has welcomed the announcement of an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, declared yesterday (28 July) following recent tensions along their shared border.
In an official statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh extended its appreciation to Malaysia, the current chair of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), for successfully mediating high-level talks that led to the ceasefire. The country also acknowledged the constructive roles played by other friendly nations in facilitating the agreement between the two Southeast Asian neighbours.
"Bangladesh compliments Malaysia, the ASEAN Chair, for mediating the fruitful talks between the two sides at the highest political level," the statement read. It further commended the efforts of all international partners who contributed to easing the conflict.
Expressing hope for lasting peace, Bangladesh urged Thailand and Cambodia to resolve their remaining border demarcation issues through dialogue and diplomacy. It also called for the swift restoration of calm and stability in the affected border areas to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of civilians on both sides.
