Bangladesh urge Canada to extend duty-free import till 2030
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada Dr Khalilur Rahman on Friday called on the Canadian government for extending the duty-free quote-free access of Bangladeshi exports, especially RMG products to the Canadian market until 2030.
He made the remarks at a virtual discussion arranged by Bangabandhu Center for Bangladesh Studies in Canada (BCBS) in collaboration with Bangladesh High Commission in Canada on women empowerment, said a press release.
"It would be a huge contribution by Canada to continuing women's economic empowerment as around 85% of RMG workers in the RMG sector in Bangladesh are women," he said in his speech.

He also highlighted the role Bangladesh and Canada have been playing in promoting women's empowerment, peace and security.
The seminar titled "Women, Security and Peacebuilding: A 21st Century Perspective" was attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam MP as a panel speaker.
Panellists of the seminar applauded Bangladesh's role in the adoption of UN resolution 1325, its national implementation along the related SDGs to empower women and engage them in peacekeeping.
They also noted implementing gender quotas can help increase women's representation in peace-building missions.
Other panellists were British Columbia Senator Mobina SB Jaffer, Canada Global Affairs Women, Peace and Security, Ambassador Jacqueline O'Neill, Canadian MP Yasmin Ratansi, former Norway UNTSO Head of Mission Maj Gen (retd) Kristin Lund and MINUSCA Military Gender Advisor Commander Carla Monteiro de Castro Araújo.
