Bangladesh seeks Saudi support for coastal greening, rainwater projects, says Rizwana

Bangladesh has sought Saudi Arabia's support to address climate risks, promote greening initiatives, and provide safe drinking water in saline-prone coastal areas, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said today (19 October).
During a meeting with Abdullah Zafer H bin Abiyah, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Bangladesh, at the Bangladesh Secretariat, Rizwana underscored the need for international cooperation as Bangladesh remains among the world's most climate-vulnerable nations, reads a press release.
The ambassador invited her to the upcoming 5th session of the Islamic Conference and expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation and climate resilience. They also discussed potential joint initiatives in green technology, renewable energy, and water management.
Later, the adviser chaired a review meeting on the development and activities of the Bangladesh Rubber Board. She stressed adopting environment-friendly methods for sustainable rubber industry growth and offered guidance on research, export expansion, and policy support.
The meeting was attended by Farhina Ahmed, secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Md Khayrul Hasan, additional secretary (administration); Shahanara Yasmin Lili, joint secretary (law); and senior officials from the ministry and the Bangladesh Rubber Board.
