Bangladesh Navy ship ‘BNS Khalid Bin Walid’ departs for international maritime exhibition in Malaysia
The five-day LIMA exhibition will see participation from naval vessels, observers, and high-level representatives from various countries
The Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Khalid Bin Walid departed Chattogram today (15 May) to participate in the 17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA-2025), scheduled to be held in Langkawi, Malaysia from 20 to 24 May.
On the occasion of the ship's departure, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan addressed the ship's officers and sailors, offering guidance and words of encouragement. In keeping with naval tradition, the ship was given a ceremonial farewell with music performed by the Navy's ceremonial band, said a press release.
Commander of the Chattogram Naval Area, other senior naval officers, and the family members of the officers and sailors aboard were present during the departure.
Led by Captain M Ejaz Masud, BNS Khalid Bin Walid is carrying a total of 229 personnel, including 34 officers, to represent Bangladesh in this globally significant maritime event. The participation is expected to enhance Bangladesh's image on the international stage and highlight the professionalism of its naval forces.
The five-day LIMA exhibition will see participation from naval vessels, observers, and high-level representatives from various countries. Bangladesh Navy's involvement in such events reflects its active role in promoting maritime security, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response on a global scale.
This mission also aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and regional maritime cooperation among participating nations, while enhancing the operational and professional capabilities of Bangladeshi naval personnel.
Since 1993, Bangladesh Navy warships have been regularly participating in LIMA exhibitions, showcasing their growing capabilities and commitment to international naval collaboration.
Following the exhibition, BNS Khalid Bin Walid is scheduled to return to its home base on 29 May.
