Bangladesh establishes diplomatic ties with Dominica

Bangladesh has established diplomatic relations with the Commonwealth of Dominica, an island nation in the Caribbean.

Rabab Fatima, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, and Lauren Ruth, Permanent Representative of Dominica to the United Nations, signed the agreement at a signing ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations on Tuesday.

The agreement will be finalised after ratification at the end of the internal process between the two countries.

Under the agreement, Bangladesh and Dominica will establish friendly relations in various fields of mutual interest, including political, economic, social, cultural and scientific and humanitarian issues.

Although Dominica is an agricultural state, the country is slowly developing a modern economic structure. The country is rapidly industrialising due to the influx of foreign investment and the duty-free access to the markets of developed countries, including the United States and the European Union. There are employment opportunities for Bangladeshis in these industries.

Moreover, there is a possibility of increasing the export of various Bangladeshi products including readymade garments to the country.

The signing of this agreement will benefit both countries through mutual support on various international issues in addition to expanding the export market and increasing employment.

Earlier in August, Bangladesh had established diplomatic relations with Saint Kitts and Nevis.
