Bangladesh doesn't need another 'Moududist proxy party', says Adviser Mahfuj
“We don’t need another proxy-Moududist party in Bangladesh’s political landscape. There are already half a dozen proxies working. You won’t add anything! Rather, redefine, reorganise and reclaim,” he wrote
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam has said that Bangladesh's political landscape does not need "another proxy Moududist party," noting that several such proxies are already active.
In a Facebook post last night (13 September), the adviser wrote, "We don't need another proxy-Moududist party in Bangladesh's political landscape. There are already half a dozen proxies working. You won't add anything! Rather, redefine, reorganise and reclaim."
Later in the comment section, he also shared a screenshot of some remarks and wrote, "Moududist mob in making to kill me."
As of 1:00am, in the comment section, his post drew considerable attention from netizens, with many speculating that the party he was referring to is Jamaat-e-Islami.
His remarks came in the backdrop of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat, backed panel's sweeping victory in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu) elections, where the panel secured 20 out of 25 central posts.
The victory follows Shibir's landslide win in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) polls.
Earlier, on 10 September, the adviser had also posted a congratulatory post on Facebook, writing, "Congratulations to the winners at Ducsu," referring to the Shibir-backed candidates.
"Moududist" refers to followers of the political ideology of Syed Abul A'la Maududi, the Islamic scholar who founded Jamaat-e-Islami.
