After the independence of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led the nation and started working quickly to implement various initiatives to ensure the country's economic liberation.

However, Bangabandhu was unable to complete all the initiatives. Economists believe that his economic initiatives are now being implemented successfully.

Speakers remarked this at the National Mourning Day discussion organised by the Dhaka School of Economics at the Entrepreneurial Economists Club on Saturday.

On the occasion of Bangabandhu's 45th martyrdom anniversary, Dhaka School of Economics' Chairperson Economist Dr Kazi Khaliquzzaman Ahmed, Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Quazi Sajjad Ali Zahir Bir Protik and Dhaka school's Economics Department Coordinator Professor Dr Mohammad Mahbub Ali, among others, spoke at the discussion.

Quazi Sajjad Zahir said, "Bangabandhu is a true idealistic great leader. Due to his efficient leadership, the subjugated nation was liberated."

"The young generally should work after being inspired by Bangabandhu's ideology. If we work with honesty and devotion like Bangabandhu, we will get political as well as economic freedom," he added.

Kazi Khaliquzzaman Ahmed said that after the independence of the country, Bangabandhu's leadership focused on the development of agriculture and marginalised people across the country.

"He undertook various initiatives to ensure economic equality and emancipation. To implement his ideals, the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has launched an enrichment programme," he added.

Professor Muhammad Mahbub Ali said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a political entrepreneur.

"He took initiative to implement various field level programmes, including agricultural insurance for the development of rural and marginalised people. However, many of his initiatives have not yet been implemented," he added.

Among others, Rehana Parveen, assistant professor of the school, Sara Tasneem and Umme Nahar Azmi, president of the Entrepreneurial Economist Club spoke on the occasion.
