An autorickshaw driver allegedly stabbed a girl of Class 8 for refusing his advances in Betagi upazila of Barguna yesterday (19 November), said police.

Police have taken custody of the accused, Hasan Sikdar, who was detained by the locals and handed over to the police.

Betagi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ekramul Haque confirmed the matter stating that a case was filed against the accused.

Locals said accused Hasan used to make advances to the girl proposing a relationship which she refused several times.

Yesterday, while on her way home from the school, the autorickshaw driver obstructed her and stabbed her for not accepting his proposal, they said.

Though the accused managed to flee the scene at first, locals rounded him up and handed him over to the police.

The victim has been undergoing treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
