Attorney General wants action against unprecedented chaos by BNP lawyers

Terming pro-BNP lawyers' chaos inside courtroom at Appellate Division as unprecedented, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today urged chief justice to take action against them.
"It's an attempt by the pro-BNP lawyers to pressurize the Appellate Division, which is tantamount to contempt of court. The chaos they made is unprecedented. The judges at one stage were forced to leave the courtroom, it was disgusting. We condemn such anarchy," he said at a press briefing held at Supreme Court Bar Association building this afternoon.
Earlier in the morning, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) adjourned till December 12 the hearing on bail plea filed by BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case. The apex court passed the allowing a time plea of the state.

"BSMMU VC has informed me that some medical tests of Begum Khaleda Zia have been completed and some are yet to be done. So, we need some time," the attorney general said in today's hearing.
"Let this matter appear in the list on December 12, 2019, for hearing," said a six-member apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, asking Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) vice chancellor to submit the report by December 11.
But right after apex court's order, adjourning the bail hearing, counsels of Khaleda Zia along with pro-BNP lawyers started chanting political slogans, slandering court, creating a chaotic situation inside the courtroom.
Supreme Court Bar Association president AM Amin Uddin, who also spoke at the briefing, too demanded strong action against such unruly acts inside courtroom.
"I never witnessed such incident at Supreme Court. It is sad. I strongly condemn these acts. They again proved the fact that they do not believe in rule of law. They do not believe in court and judiciary," he said.
The bar president further said many of those culprits were not even lawyers, but outsiders.
Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, a platform for pro-liberation lawyers, member secretary Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said BNP has hired people and brought them at Supreme Court marking the hearing on bail plea of their party chief.
"It was an evil attempt to destabilize the court arena and we are strongly protesting such acts. General lawyers would prevent this evil attempt of BNP to tarnish the image of judiciary," he added.
