A Dhaka court today (16 September) sent former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor and former state minister for civil aviation and tourism M Mahbub Ali to jail in a case filed over the death of hotel staffer Siam Sarder in the capital's Mirpur area during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement in July.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharrof Hossain passed the order after police produced them before the court, seeking confinement in jail until the completion of the investigation.

The lawyers of Noor and Mahbub filed petitions seeking their bail. However, the court rejected the bail petitions and sent them to jail.
