GPA-5 Scouts to get separate scheme; Tk5cr more to be added to budget: Milon
Primary-level sports, social activities integrated to curb drug abuse, moral decline.
The government will introduce a separate scheme for Scouts securing GPA-5 in SSC and HSC examinations, while an additional Tk5 crore will be added to the budget for scouting activities, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said today (2 September).
"An additional Tk5 crore will be added to the budget for Scout activities. Inshallah, we will also introduce a separate scheme for talented Scouts," he said while addressing a reception for meritorious Scouts and Rover Scouts who secured GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC and HSC examinations at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in Dhaka.

The event was organised by the Special Events Department of the Bangladesh Scouts. A total of 580 Scouts and Rover Scouts were honoured with medals, congratulatory certificates and Tk2,000 each.
The education minister said scouting helps students develop leadership, discipline, a sense of justice and patriotism, as well as a willingness to make sacrifices for the country.
He said such activities should be expanded further.
"Meritorious students must be recognised. There is no alternative. Those who achieve good results will be rewarded and honoured," he added.
The minister said today's students would build the Bangladesh of the future and stressed developing their merit and skills to turn the country's population into human resources.
"Extracurricular activities such as scouting could play an important role in that process," he said.
Addressing the students, Milon said good academic results alone were not enough and urged them not to compromise on morality and values.
He also asked them to respect their parents and teachers alongside their studies and practise discipline and values to contribute to nation-building.
The minister said students were being involved in sports and social activities from the primary level to help address drug abuse and moral decline.
"Sports, a sporting culture and joyful learning were also being incorporated into the education system," he added.
