The operation was carried out from 1am to 8am in Guagachia Union.
A joint operation led by the army in Gozaria upazila of Munshiganj recovered a shotgun, ammunition, and several sharp weapons early today (11 February) as part of efforts to maintain law and order ahead of the national elections. One person was arrested during the drive.
The operation was carried out from 1am to 8am in Guagachia Union. Law enforcers recovered a shotgun, ammunition, nine daggers, and a speedboat, and detained a suspect believed to be linked to a river piracy gang.
The arrestee was identified as Jamal Hossain, 44, son of Shahid Dhali from Bhasarchor village. Preliminary investigation suggests he acted as an informant for a notorious river pirate group led by "Nayan-Piash."
According to sources at the Gozaria army camp, the operation was conducted under the 99 Composite Brigade based on intelligence inputs. Members of the joint forces raided suspected hideouts in three villages during the drive.
An army officer said special operations are ongoing across the country to maintain law and order ahead of the elections and will continue against terrorism, sabotage, and drug-related activities. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activity.
Mohammad Hasan Ali, officer-in-charge of Gozaria Police Station, said, "One person has been arrested in connection with the incident. Once the army hands over the seized weapons and equipment to the police station, legal action will be taken. Law enforcement is on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents ahead of the national parliamentary elections."
