Magistracy power has been given to the army to improve the law and order situation of the country, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam said today (20 September).

Nahid made the remark while distributing food assistance among the flood affected people at Bangakha High School and Jadiya Fazil Madrasha premises after visiting two flood affected unions of Lakhshmipur Sadar upazila.

The adviser also said the trial of the fascists will be held on the soil of this country.

Mentioning the government's plan to bring more sectors, including education and mass media, under reform programmes, he said, "As part of the 'state reform programme', six commissions have been formed and meeting of those commissions have already been held. The reform commissions will begin their work from October."

The commissions will prepare the outline of the reform through discussion with the concerned officials and experts, he said, adding that reform would begin according to their recommendations.

The adviser said the government would undertake programme for rehabilitation of the flood affected people within the quickest possible time.

Nahid said flood water of Lakhsmipur is receding slowly as the canals of the district are occupied by the encroachers. He said steps would be taken to free all canals of the district from illegal encroachment.

The government has already disbursed fund for reconstruction of homes destroyed in flood, he added.

Deputy Commissioner Rajib Kumar Sarker and other local high officials were present among others.
