Army deployed on major roads to ensure smooth Eid travel

To ease the journey of homebound travellers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Bangladesh Army, along with traffic and highway police, has been deployed at key points on major roads and highways from today (25 March).
More than 300 members of the 33rd Infantry Division have been stationed at critical locations along the Dhaka-Chattogram and Cumilla-Sylhet highways, as well as roads in Lakshmipur, Chandpur, and Noakhali districts.
Their deployment aims to manage traffic congestion and prevent criminal activities, according to a press release from the 33rd Infantry Division.
The release urged bus owner associations and drivers to avoid operating unfit vehicles, speeding, stopping at undesignated points to pick up passengers, making unnecessary lane changes, and driving while fatigued.
The army is working to ensure a smooth and safe journey for the public, it further reads.
Additionally, market owner associations along the Dhaka-Chattogram, Cumilla-Sylhet, Cumilla-Noakhali, Cumilla-Chandpur, and Cumilla-Lakshmipur roads have been requested to prevent encroachments that narrow highways by setting up floating shops.
The army will exercise its full magisterial authority to address any disruptions affecting Eid travellers, the statement added.
