Army chief asks troops to maintain inter-agency coordination, neutrality ahead of election
The statement followed field-level reviews of election security arrangements.
Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman today (28 January) called for stronger inter-agency coordination, professionalism and neutrality to ensure a peaceful, fair and credible national election slated for 12 February.
He made the remarks while visiting Patuakhali and Khulna, where he reviewed the law and order situation ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election and inspected army personnel deployed under "in aid to the civil power," according to a press release issued by The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During his visit, the army chief directly observed troop activities, issued operational guidance and held meetings with civil administration officials.
In Patuakhali, General Waker-Uz-Zaman met senior military officials, divisional and district administrators and law enforcement officers at the deputy commissioner's conference room.
Later he chaired a similar meeting at the Khulna divisional commissioner's office.
At both meetings, discussions centred on inter-institutional coordination and security arrangements aimed at ensuring the election takes place peacefully, neutrally and in an orderly manner.
The army chief urged personnel to carry out their duties with professionalism, discipline, patience and citizen-friendly conduct.
Senior military officials, including the General Officer Commanding of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, the GOCs of the 55 and 7 Infantry Divisions and area commanders of Jashore and Barishal, along with officers from Army Headquarters and the Barishal and Jashore areas, joined the visits.
Divisional commissioners, senior civil administration and law enforcement officials, and media representatives also attended the meetings.
