Anwara Udyan reopened to public
The administrator also said a walkway will be constructed around the udyan.
Anwara Udyan, named after Shaheed Anwara Begum, a martyr of the 1969 uprising, in the capital's Farmgate area has been reopened to the public today (9 January).
Speaking at a ceremony this afternoon, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz said the udyan, which had remained closed since 2018 due to the construction work of the Dhaka metro rail, can now be used freely by city residents.
Although parks and water bodies are sometimes used temporarily for development activities, restoring them is often challenging, Azaz said, adding that in the interest of city dwellers, however, such public spaces are being reopened for public use.
The administrator also said a walkway will be constructed around the udyan.
"We will start the work very soon. We will also decide on how the park can be kept open at least until 10pm," he added.
At the event, Dhaka Metro Rail Managing Director Faruk Ahmed said that metro rail project work in the Anwara Udyan area has been completed.
He added that all structures currently standing on the field would be removed and the area cleared by 15 February.
